Parent Teacher Compact Dear Parent/Guardian: We at Sam Houston value your role in working to help your child achieve high academic standards. The staff, students, and parents/guardians of Sam Houston agree to share the responsibility for establishing high expectations and preparing children to achieve high academic standards. Student success is dependent upon the strength of this partnership and the shared commitment between school and home. School's Responsibility: As a SHE School staff member, I will work to... - Create a safe and nurturing school environment - Ensure that every child knows they are valued and respected. -
Create clear student goals and expectations and the means for the students
to achieve - Provide a positive environment that values each individual learner - Communicate clear and reasonable homework assignments -
Maintain regular communication with the child's family (web site, newsletters,
agenda, - Respond timely and positively to student and parent concerns/ questions - Provide a flexible time for parent/ teacher conferences - Will constantly and fairly uphold school rules - Welcome and encourage family participation in school events Parent's Responsibility: As a SHE family member, I will work to... - Ensure my child is well rested (10-12 hours) has breakfast
and is dressed appropriately for - Make sure my child is at school and on time everyday with proper supplies. -
Keep the school informed regarding any changes in family situation
(i.e. telephone #, address, - Explain and support school rules and character motto - Maintain regular communication with my child's teacher. - Limit TV viewing and video games, encourage daily reading and exercise instead. - Ensure that my child has completed their agenda, and I will sign it nightly (2nd-4th) - Support your child's academic and social independence - Value instructional time (schedule conference times with teacher to protect student learning) - Ask for help, if needed with parenting or school issues. Student's Responsibility: As a Sam Houston Student I will... - Always Play fair, Act kindly, Work Hard, and Show respect. (P.A.W.S.) - Come to school well rested and with a positive attitude - Read at home daily - Ask and encourage your family to participate in school activities - Use formal language when speaking to all adults - Talk to teacher about assignments and school issues - Ask for help when you need it - Talk with your family about things that are happening at school - Complete all assignments on time and use your best effort - Respect yourself and others by following school rules
