For Valentines, we will not have a big party. We will have a Valentines snack and pass out the valentines that each child brings from home. Please make sure to make a Valentine for each child in our class. If a parent would like to send in Valentines cookies or cupcakes, please let me know.

Please make sure your child is at school by 7:50 everyday but especially next Wednesday. We are leaving for the Discovery Center early and I would hate for anybody to be left behind.
I need a parent volunteer to send in a fruit tray for our reader’s breakfast in the library for Read Me Day on Friday. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy…just a couple of fruit choices and a dip. Let me know by next Wednesday if you can help us out! Thanks!
Spelling homework has raised some questions lately. The spelling homework sheet is taped in your child’s spelling notebook. The homework choices do not change, the words will change each week. From now to the end of the school year, homework will be due every Friday. Any student who does not complete it by Friday will miss recess to work on it. It is so important that the children start to learn to be responsible for their learning and their work. This is going to be very important throughout school and now is the time to develop good homework habits. Please let me know if your child does not have their spelling words. I will gladly get you a copy of those!

We are back and ready to get to work! This semester is going to be so exciting because you will really watch your 1st grader blossom as a reader and a problem solver! Hold on to your seat!!!! It’s going to be a fast few months to summer!
We are going to be learning about the long i sound this week and we will be working on comprehending a story by making predictions and asking questions as we read. In Math, we will be comparing numbers using the vocabulary more, fewer, same, greater than, less than, and equal to.
We will also be beginning a brand new learning project!!!! I am so very excited about this project. We are going to study polar animals. Each child will choose their favorite and do some research and write a report. The step-by-step process of organizing and writing a report is more important at this early writing development stage than the amount information gathered. Each child will be setting up a research folder with specific steps to follow. In a few weeks, we will then transfer our reports to a PowerPoint presentation.
We are also getting ready for DIBELS next week. We will be working hard to make sure we are prepared for the new assessment of Oral Reading Fluency where the kiddos will need to read 20 words per minute.
Snuggle Up and Read will start back this week. Please check your child’s folder every night. In December, we fell off the snuggle up and read wagon with so many other things going on but we are going to get back on and ride!
I can’t end this newsletter without telling you all THANK YOU so much for helping to make our fiesta and Christmas parties a huge success and a wonderful time of fun together. Thank you too for the sweet Christmas gifts! You all are the best and because of that, your kiddos are the best! It definitely rubs off.

Well friends, here we are at the last week of school before Christmas Break! This week is going to be super busy! I sent notes home on Friday of what you can send in to help us with our parties this week. If you didn’t get your note, please let me know. Don’t forget to send in a book wrapped in Christmas paper for our book exchange on Friday. Send them in early if you can and we will put them under our Christmas tree.
This Tuesday will be the Christmas Program at 6pm in the gym. Early Intervention, 2nd grade, and the Tiger Choir will be performing. It is going to be a great show!
Wednesday will be Tiger Awards and Report Cards go home. I will send a note home in agendas tomorrow if your child will be getting a Tiger Award.
On Wednesday we will also be having a fiesta! Due to the time crunch, it will just consist of a snack of chips, cheese dip, and salsa as well as busting our pinata!
Thursday will be our school wide and 1st grade PAWS party for all of the children who have had great behavior this nine weeks. For every 3 red marks that you have in your agenda, you have to miss one activity. We will be having a Christmas rotation through 1st grade with Christmas Bingo, Christmas Movies and Hot Chocolate, Making Reindeer Food, and more!
On Friday we will have our Christmas Party. Please send your backpack with your child on Friday to carry their gift and anything else home in. We will dismiss at 10am on Friday. I will not send agendas or snuggle up and read books home over the holidays.
The children will return to school on Tuesday, January 3.
I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas full of family and priceless memories! I will miss my kiddos and can’t wait to see them next year!
Information will be updated soon! Thank you for your patience and cooperation!
